About Pregnancy Tests

Being unsure about a pregnancy can be a stressful experience. We want you to know that if you feel that you have nowhere to turn for information about your potential pregnancy, we are here to help. At our clinic, we offer free medical-grade pregnancy tests done through urine. These are the same tests that your doctor’s office would run, and they’re very reliable in determining pregnancies.

A pregnancy test looks for the presence of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in your body. This can be done through testing urine.

What Do We Assess For?

After a positive pregnancy test, patients may come to us for further assessment of their pregnancy through our point-of-care ultrasound (P.O.C.U.S) service.

There are three things that we assess when a client comes to us for P.O.C.U.S:

  • Identifying a pregnancy within the uterus
  • The presence of cardiac activity
  • The gestational age of the pregnancy

Once the pregnancy has been confirmed through the ultrasound scan, we can offer our support through the many options available to you, such as parenting, adoption, or abortion.

What is P.O.C.U.S?

P.O.C.U.S stands for “point-of-care ultrasound” and is an assessment tool for those who qualify. This tool is how we offer detailed information to pregnant women about their pregnancy. An ultrasound scan is a useful tool that emits high-frequency sound waves that can be used at various periods during pregnancy, such as the first, second, and third trimester. An ultrasound procedure can include a transvaginal ultrasound or a transabdominal ultrasound.

FAQ

Some tests may vary in results depending on how early you take the test. You will have a better chance of receiving correct results if you take a pregnancy test 10 days after conception. Another indication to take a pregnancy test would be if you have a missed period. Our centre offers free medical grade pregnancy tests that are more reliable than in-store tests.

You will want to wait at least 10 days after conception or wait until you have officially missed your period before you take a pregnancy test. The body needs time for the pregnancy hormone to increase enough for a pregnancy test to determine whether the result is positive or negative.

When you visit our centre, our free medical grade pregnancy tests are over 99% accurate from the day you expect your period and onward, and false positive pregnancy test results are rare. If you test on or the day after you’re expecting your period and it yields a positive result, you can be pretty sure of the result. If you receive a negative, you may have miscalculated the period due date.

At-home pregnancy test prices vary depending on the brand, ranging from $10 to $20. However, at our clinic, we offer a medical-grade, free pregnancy test to clients that wish to confirm their pregnancy with more accuracy.

Tests utilized at clinics have a better chance of producing accurate results, as home tests can be used improperly. Professional nurses at our clinic understand exactly how to use our medical-grade tests to determine if a woman is pregnant.
