HAMILTON, Ontario: On May 6, 2023, Atwell Centre’s educational branch, S.H.A.R.E., will host its first-ever youth conference at Compass Point Bible Church in Burlington, Ontario. The one-day conference will feature workshops that empower youth to understand the intrinsic value of themselves and others as well as provide opportunities for parents to explore how to talk with their teens about sensitive issues. A selection of high-quality, reliable resources will also be available.
Since 2012, Atwell Centre: Pregnancy Support Options has been offering support to women and their partners as they navigate the challenges of unexpected pregnancy and post-abortion realities. Recognized many times over for its critical community services, the charity has been continually expanding and recently opened its second location in Halton, Ontario. S.H.A.R.E., which stands for Sexual Health and Relationship Education, is the Atwell Centre’s educational branch. It aims to develop critical thinking skills in today’s youth through the sharing of accurate information about healthy sexuality and relationships.
Lois Benham-Smith, Atwell Centre’s founder and executive director, sees S.H.A.R.E. as a critical and natural extension of the nonprofit’s mission. “When we provide access to research, informed presentations, and culturally relevant materials, we empower teens to make healthy lifestyle choices,” she says. S.H.A.R.E. offers programming for schools, colleges, and churches alike.
S.H.A.R.E.’s upcoming conference is an exciting first for Atwell Centre. Workshops and presentations will focus on themes such as setting relationship goals, creating healthy boundaries, the reproductive system, stages of pregnancy, and the dangers of porn, sexting, and unfiltered social media. The conference will take place on May 6, 2023, at Compass Point Bible Church located at 1500 Kerns Rd. in Burlington.
